A National Campaign Against Email, Phone, and Online Scams
As fraud becomes increasingly sophisticated, the Take Five campaign is here to help businesses of all sizes protect themselves from email, phone, and online scams. Staying informed about the latest fraud tactics and best practices is essential for safeguarding your business.
Fraud can impact any business—large or small—but small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are often more vulnerable due to limited resources or lack of specialized training for employees on how to identify and prevent scams.
The Take Five approach can help your team stay vigilant and protect your business from financial threats. Here’s how it works:
STOP
If you receive an unexpected request for payment, instructions to change supplier bank details, or a demand for financial information, take a moment to pause. Scammers rely on urgency to catch victims off guard.
CHALLENGE
Before acting, challenge the legitimacy of the request:
- Have you verified the payment request?
- Does the email come from a legitimate domain or address?
- Is the telephone number familiar or verified?
- Are the bank details provided correct and previously verified?
PROTECT
If you suspect that you’ve been targeted, immediately contact your bank. Report the incident to Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cybercrime.
With the right steps, you can prevent scammers from accessing your business’s sensitive information and finances. Share these guidelines with your team, and encourage a culture of vigilance. Remember, fraud prevention starts with awareness—Take Five before you act.
Test Yourself
Take Five teamed up with Amazon to create an interactive quiz which simulates the business environment and the threats you may face. Give it a go and let us know how you get on!
